The Completion Experiment: Rewiring Your Mind for Success

anxiety clear intentions completion finding hope heal your body heal your nervous system health hacking rewire your mind why cant i lose weight Mar 31, 2025

This morning, as I was making my bed, a thought crossed my mind—a belief I’ve carried for far too long.

“I can never complete things.”

Sound familiar?

Maybe it’s that pile of laundry you forgot in the washer, leaving you with damp sheets right before bedtime. Perhaps it’s the college degree you never finished, the business idea that stayed just that—an idea, or the health journey you started strong but abandoned along the way.

The narrative is always the same: I always fail.

In the journey to health and wholeness, limiting beliefs like this lurk beneath the surface, whispering that consistency isn’t for you. “I’ve tried 100 diets, and I never complete them! Even when I do, I just slip back into my old ways.”

It’s an exhausting, frustrating, and deeply ingrained loop of deception.

The Mind-Body Connection: Why We Fall Back Into Old Patterns

Here’s the thing—when you constantly repeat limiting beliefs, your mind, body, and nervous system accept them as truth. Your brain wires itself to confirm what you believe: I don’t complete things.

And when you attempt to change? Your nervous system panics. Your body craves the familiar, no matter how unhelpful it may be. It triggers discomfort, self-doubt, and even physical stress responses—pushing you back into old patterns where things feel “safe” and “normal.”

Does that make sense now?

Let me put it another way. 😁

The Art Experiment (And Why It Feels So Familiar)

Imagine you’ve always wanted to be an artist. You buy an online course, invest in hundreds of dollars in supplies, and set up your space with excitement. The first class begins, and suddenly, the instructor is speaking a language you don’t understand—artist jargon that makes you feel out of place.

Still, you push through. You begin your first painting, a stunning beach scene in your mind, but… it’s harder than it looks. Your inner critic screams, “OH NO! You’re not good at this! You shouldn’t even try!”

Your nervous system jumps in, flooding you with cortisol and adrenaline. Shame, embarrassment, regret, and anxiety surge through you.

So what happens? You either quit immediately or struggle through a few more attempts before packing away your supplies, telling yourself you’ll “try again later.” But deep down, you’ve already decided: I can never complete things, so why bother?

Sound familiar?

The Conscious Completion Experiment

I want you to try something with me—an experiment in rewiring your brain.

The goal? To CONSCIOUSLY complete things.

We complete thousands of things every day without even thinking about it. But when you make completion a conscious act, you begin to break the cycle of limiting beliefs and create new neural pathways that tell a different story: I complete things. I follow through.

For example, my realization this morning? I made my bed. That’s a completion!

It seems small, but it’s actually HUGE! By acknowledging even the simplest completions, you start rewiring your mind, body, and nervous system to believe in your ability to finish what you start.

Your Completion List

Start keeping track of every single thing you complete, no matter how small. Here are some ideas:

✔️ I completed reading this really long blog from Polly! (Haha!)

✔️ I completed eating breakfast and put away my dishes.

✔️ I completed feeding my pets.

✔️ I completed my morning walk.

✔️ I completed going to the bathroom—and flushed! (Yes, even this counts!) Oh..and wash your hands! ;)

✔️ I completed… (fill in the blank!)

Let’s celebrate every step forward together.

This is how we break the cycle. This is how we rewrite the story.

Happy completing! 🎉
